Monthly Food Bites—January 2006

A New Year, A New You
Keeping a Food Diary

  Keeping Your Heart Healthy
> Fiber Facts

This exercise is designed to give you a rough estimate of how much you eat. You can determine your actual calorie intake if you measure everything precisely and then use a calorie-counting book or check out the websites below to determine the calories in the food you eat. This is hard work, but you will get a clear idea of your intake.

To get a true picture, record what you eat as you eat it. By doing this, you are less likely to take the extra crust of pizza on someone’s plate, the handful of cereal in your room or the swig of beer at a party. It does alter your intake … but it also gives you some insight into how much “grazing” you actually do. To calculate your calorie intake, go to NATS or caloriesperhour.com.

Dear diary …

Keep this form handy from the time you wake until the time you sleep.
