Get fit with your friends! Studies have shown that people do better at reducing cholesterol levels and have a greater rate of success if they have support from family and friends. Find an activity that you and your fellow college roommate(s) can do together such as going to the gym, participate in a group exercise class, hiking, or explore the city where you attend college.

For maximum effectiveness when exercising, you should focus on 4 key components:

  • Mode – Based on your interests, time availability, and personal goals.
  • Frequency – Refers to the number of sessions of exercise you participate in per week. This depends on duration and intensity; however, some sort of activity should be performed everyday.
  • Duration – This refers to the number of minutes of exercise in one session; the duration should be an average of 30 minutes. If you are of high fitness level, the duration should range from 30-60 minutes.
  • Intensity – This refers to the speed or workload.
